After 2 months off the Brighton scene due to a broken leg, it was nice to finally leave my comfortable sofa and venture back into Brighton. Still on crutches but adamant to try and get back into my active Brighton life, I decided to have a go. The festival had only just started, it was perfect timing.
I grabbed my partner and cousin for support and started with the open houses. What a pleasure to not only see some great artists, painters and sculptors alike, but also to be able to have a peep at other people’s houses.
We started with the Fiveways Artists Group where I saw Milton House with a wonderful selection of art, jewellery, sculpture, photography, hats, and other small gifts. I am hoping that Sarah Jones, http://www.sarahjonesprints.co.uk/ will exhibit at Gulliver’s very soon when she is not too busy. Her prints from Brighton & Hove would suit Gulliver’s www.gullivershotel.com very much.
We also visited the Kemptown houses the next day where one of my favourite was Jay Collins with her Kemptown scenes done in gouache. I hope she will exhibit at the New Steine Bistro before the end of the year as once again we like to promote local artists and local scenes.
After fighting to get around on my crutches, a lunch around the corner from the New Steine was well deserved. We went to the newly opened Town House Kemptown, www.thetownhousekemptown.co.uk where we tried their new lunch menu. I started with one of my favourites, chicken liver parfait served with warm brioche; my partner went for the soup. Both starters were delicious and not too filling. I continued with pan‐fried crispy duck cooked in sesame oil, served with soy and sweet chilli sauce on a bed of mixed leaves, garlic croutons, vine cherry tomatoes and a mango dressing. My partner went for the traditional Brighton by the sea
beer battered cod. This is served with chips and mushy peas but being french, Georges asked for a side salad instead of the peas. The atmosphere was very pleasant and we left happy and full till the evening.
